CAPIGI GeoAgri 2016: “Insightful, exciting, state-of-the-art”
June 2016

Insightful” is how one of CAPIGI GeoAgri 2016’s visitors describes the conference, which took place from 24 – 26 May 2016 in the World Trade Center Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Other visitors said: “Good mixture of speakers from industry, public sector and research” and “Good discussion platform for Precision Agriculture”. The successful conference attracted enthusiastic visitors, offered a unique drone field trip and many possibilities to network. Especially this year the possibility to network was increased. The collaboration between CAPIGI and the Geospatial World Forum ensured a diversity of presentations and workshops, and also a larger opportunity to network, due to the fact that two conferences and its target groups were brought together.

The relatively low number of visitors increased the stimulation of discussion during the sessions. The sessions focused on different aspects of precision agriculture, which attracted a diversity of visitors and speakers. As such, Thursday May 26th was all about drones, including a very successful Drone Live-Demo day at PPO Westmaas with several types of drones demonstrations. An information market was also available at this field excursion, consisting of 21 organisations focused on all kinds of drones. Tuesday May 24th was focused on mainstreaming precision farming and success stories which portrayed this theme. Wednesday May 25th focused on advancements in space technology, data and ICT which can lift the agricultural sector to a higher level. These different focus sessions attracted therefore not only the industry, but also attracted the interest of scientist, government and students.
